Competition entry, 2008
Nordhavnen is a sustainable city of the future organised by water, landscape, climate and transport. Its form is composed of 4 principle constituent parts;
Water + Islands
The unique location of the site with its proximity to the sea is considered an enormous opportunity. A series of new canals and the extension of existing water basins further fragments the site into distinct strips of islands.
A linear landscape forms a central spine - crossing, cutting through and connecting the islands, the existing city and the water.
A bold linear edge to the city of Nordhavnen provides a new gateway to Copenhagen. The distinct form of the commercial district which aligns the terminal will be seen as an icon of Nordhavnen from mainland Copenhagen and instantly recognisable to passengers on ships as they arrive at and depart from the city. A series of green buildings with internal gardens and filled with natural light.
